While, of course, the iconic Kentucky Derby is the main event happening each May in Louisville, you can still experience the thrill of this famed horse race all year long by taking a behind-scenes Churchill Downs Tour and checking out the memorabilia, fashion shows, and historical exhibits at the Kentucky Derby Museum. From April to November, there are more than ten Churchill Downs Tours to choose from, including guided track tours, bourbon experiences, and hat workshops.
This past May marked the 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby race, and the museum is still offering guests ways to celebrate. One of the most popular exhibits is "See and Be Seen: 150 Years of Derby Fashion," which highlights the trends in outfits and fun hats that have always been a big part of the derby tradition. More than 30 mannequins are dressed from head to toe in classic apparel from over the years.
